Taiwan is a much under-rated tourist destination. It's former name, Ilha Formosa, means ' the beautiful island', and for very good reasons. A complete tour of the island would take 7-10 days and offers a varied and interesting visit. If you are visiting Taiwan on business, why not extend your stay and see more of the 'beautiful island?
About two thirds of the country is covered with lush forested mountains and the spectacular scenery of taroko Gorge and Sun Moon Lake are major attractions. The city of Taipei is modern and easy to explore. A highlight of Taiwan is its natural hot water spas concentrated in or not far from the major cities of Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung.

The jewel in the crown of Taipei is
Taipei 101 - which is the tallest building in the world. As well as the great views from the top of this impressive tower Taipei 101 is also home to a mass of shops on the lower floors, incorporating many top brands under the LVMH group, such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Celine, etc. The fourth floor houses the Page One bookstore from Singapore, with the highest-roofed coffee house in Taipei and many fine restaurants.
Taiwan's ready access to Asia makes it an ideal place for the bargain hunter, with large scale shopping centres and malls for clothing, electronic goods, cosmetics and much more. Taiwan also has a diverse range of traditional handicrafts, all of which make excellent souvenirs. Jade jewelry is very popular with both locals and visitors alike, with many elegant designs crafted form this precious Chinese stone.
Individual Taoist and Buddhist temples and separate, simpler Confucius temples are also found, although in some temples, Confucian portraits are found alongside Buddhist and Taoist shrines, merging all three faiths into a single place of worship.
Traveling through Taiwan you will find temples at every turn, each one a unique place that plays a vibrant role in the life and soul of modern Taiwan.
The aboriginal cultures of Taiwan represent 2% of the population of the island and their culture can be witnessed on tours around the island.
Then there's the food - the island has a great culinary culture, and Taiwanese people love to cook and really love to eat. Taiwanese specialties include crab cakes, three-cup chicken, fried egg with dried radish, roast pork with bamboo shoots, rice in bamboo tubes, deep fried stream shrimp. Buddha Jumping Over The Wall is another favorite meal it's a stew made with abalone, scallops, spareribs, mushrooms and other ingredients slowly cooked in a wine jug over charcoal for more than five hours.
