Thailand
Thailand is arguably the number one bicycle touring country in Asia. Thailand's unique culture, Buddhist heritage and incredibly friendly people make it a safe, fun and fascinating biking destination. It is also SpiceRoads home and they know the roads, trails and tracks better than anyone.  Thailand is a land of incredibly diverse landscapes. The beautiful South is home to some of Southeast Asia's last remaining tropical rainforests in addition to miles and miles of picture perfect beaches. The rugged North is a land of rolling hills, tribal villages and world-class mountain biking. In Central Thailand you can cycle in the jungles of Kanchanaburi, bike around the temples of Ayuthaya and ride around the vineyards of Khao Yai. The bike trips in Central Thailand take in nature and culture in areas where very few tourists come; providing unique insights into the Land of the Smiles.

Or if you want to be more adventurous, why not Cycle Bangkok to Siem Reap.  Starting with a transfer to the foot hills of the Cardamon mountains, we spend a night in Thailand before crossing the border.  Once we cross the sleepy border we ride into the Khmer heartland to explore rural Cambodia. Discover the fading colonial outpost of Battambang and journey by boat across Tonle Sap (Great Lake), which is the beating heart of agricultural Cambodia.  The highlight is, of course, riding amongst a thousand years of history at Angkor and we take three full days to explore the extraordinary temple complexes and surrounding areas before we bid farewell to this breathtaking collection of temples and the very friendly Cambodia people.  View Itinerary

Laos
Laos is the best kept cycling secret in Asia. A mountainous country the size of France with a population of just over five million, Laos has been trapped in a time warp by a communist government determined to save its population from western ideological pollution. Now open and welcoming tourism, much of Laos' unique culture and heritage remains in tact. In fact the whole country retains a sleepy air and its people are without doubt the most friendly and welcoming in the world who greet every bike trip with a smile.  Explore Luang Prabang which is a UNESCO World Heritage site with a relaxing atmosphere that is perfect for cycling. With empty roads, and a friendly Buddhist population and easy access from Thailand, Laos is a wonderful cycling destination. View Itinerary

Biking Grades
On the Itineraries you will see the biking grades as below.

1 chilli = Gentle(Gentle) 2 chillis = Moderate(Moderate) 3 chillis = Active(Active) 4 chillis = Tough(Tough) 5 chillis = Tough(Ironman!)

Factors affecting grading include: degree of up/down, difficulty of the surfaces to be ridden, amount of bike handling skill required, distances covered and other factors such as heat, altitude or remoteness. All our trips require basic fitness, preferably acquired through riding your bike, and please remember that any cycling involves some physical exertion, so you cannot expect that you will not feel tired on an 'easy' trip.

PLEASE NOTE: Conditions for a particular tour may vary from one month to the next. The main benefit of grading is to provide an overall indicator to compare one trip against another.

Bike Guide & Info
SpiceRoads has a fleet of TREK 4500 mountain bikes available in sizes ranging from 13 inches to 22 1/2 inches.  On short tours we include bike hire in the tour price, while on longer tours we offer bike hire as a supplement in case you prefer to bring your own bikes.   We generally use TREK4500 mountain bikes because they are high quality, durable pieces of equipment. However, we also use hybrid bikes TREK 7200 for our more road orientated tours. Please note that a certain frame model is not guaranteed.  We like the versatility and durability of the mountain bike as it has been designed to cope with different types of terrain and riding. Our trips can be on asphalt and can often be broken or potholed, and there are usually unsurfaced sections included, so mountain bikes are the most suitable. They also have the range of gears to cope with the hills.
